Mixvibes releases Cross DJ, 'pro DJ app' for Android. This is an intriguing claim given Android's poor record in this area, but Mixvibes claims that Cross DJ is responsive enough to support scratching. The app is based on the standard 2-deck, crossfader and mixer setup, and also comes with 15 effects that can be used by swiping on pads. Not that long ago, Mixvibes added support for an external MIDI controller to the Android version of Cross DJ, with the promise that more supported hardware on the way. Well, Mixvibes delivers! Cross DJ for Android now officially works with both the Pioneer DDJ-SB and DDJ-WeGO2, along with the already-supported Mixvibes U-Mix Control.

What you need for MIDI control

- 1 powered USB hub
- 1 Android device with Cross DJ Pro for Android
How to connect
Go through thoses 3 simple steps:
- Power the controller by plugging it in the USB hub
- Connect Android device to the USB hub using the OTG cable
- Go to Advanced settings and hit Connect

About Mixvibes
Mixvibes has been developing DJ apps for Mac/PC, iOS & Android for more than 10 years.
Neither the DDJ-SB nor the WeGO2 are anywhere near top tier of Pioneer’s DJ controller range, but they aren’t anything to be sniffed at either, and would certainly rock a party, no problems. You’ll still have to plug into the headphone cable on your mobile device, so the audio interface on the controllers will unfortunately remain unused when connected to Android.

This is still baby steps in the right direction though, and we can hope that more controllers will be brought into the fold. So what do we want to see next on the app? Personally, I’ve asked Mixvibes for a small but useful feature… the ability to set a default music folder. As it stands, every time you exit the app, it doesn’t remember where you last were in the folder browser. Being able to set a specific folder to show when browsing would be really useful!
