Registering Your Product

Before you move on with installing the included software, you will have to register your product on the M-Audio website. The link below will direct you to the M-audio website. Select Account, then Create Account or Sign In to create an account or log into your existing account.

Create an account and register your product. Upon registering your Oxygen keyboard, you will find links and authorization codes for the included Sonivox Twist and Air Xpand!2 plug-ins in your M-Audio account.

Note: The included Ableton Live 9 Lite software download link and authorization are on a card inside of your box. You will not find it within your M-audio account.

Downloading and installing Sonivox Twist and Air Xpand!2

Windows Install
  1. In your M-Audio account, select Twist (PC) to download Twist. Repeat with the download link for Xpand!2 to download Xpand!2.
  2. After the download is complete, we will need to extract the files before installation. To do this, right-click in the white space of the folder in which the download is stored. After doing this, select Extract All.. to extract the files. Make sure you remember this location so we can retrieve it afterward.
  3. After the files are extracted, select Install Twist to run the setup.
  4. Follow all of the prompts to proceed with the installation.
  5. Pay attention to the location where the 32 and 64 bit Xpand!2 and Twist are being installed. You will need to know this later on in order to scan the plugins into MPC Essentials. By default, these will install to:

    Xpand!2
    32-bit: Program Files(x86) / Steinberg / vstplugins
    64-bit: Program Files / Steinberg / vstplugins

    Twist
    32-bit and 64-bit: Program Files (x86) / VSTPlugins

    It is common practice to put all of your plugins into a single folder in order to keep track of your plugin library, so you may want to consider changing the install location of one or both of the plugins to a single location. Note: It is ok to install both 32 and 64-bit versions to the same folder, but be aware that your DAW will only be able to recognize one and may fail the other.

  6. Restart your computer once the plugins have been installed.
Macintosh Install
  1. To install on a Mac, choose the Mac option in your account.
  2. Run the .dmg file you have just downloaded.

Note: All plug-ins install to a default plug-in folder on your Mac. Most DAWs will automatically search this location for new plugins.

Authorizing SONiVOX Twist and Air Xpand!2

  1. Find and open the iLok License Manager from your Programs or Applications folder.
  2. Click on Sign-In in the top left corner. If you have used iLok before with other products and have an account, sign-in to your account. If you have never seen or used iLok before, click on Create New Account in the Sign In window and follow the prompts to create an account.
    Please note: We recommend using an iLok account. Signing in is not always necessary to utilize an iLok license, but having and using an account to keep track of your licenses is free and provides additional features and options for managing and moving your licenses when necessary. You can see our Managing Authorization Codes and Licenses guide for more information.
  3. Once you are logged in, click on Licenses at the top of the window and choose Redeem Activation Code.


  4. A window will appear with space for you to enter an authorization code.


  5. Navigate to your M-Audio Account page, highlight and copy the Authorization Code for Twist. Paste this code into the first box on the left and the code will fill out the remaining fields. When you're ready, click Next.
  6. You will be prompted to choose a location for your license. You are free to choose an iLok dongle if you have one, but for most users, just choose your computer (this will be the option with the computer icon on the left) and click Activate.
  7. You will be asked to confirm this one more time. Click OK.
  8. Finally, iLok will notify you when the activation is complete!


  9. This process (steps 3 - 8) can be repeated for any other plugins that utilize an iLok license.

Connecting the M-Track MKII and Confirming the Driver Installation

Connect the M-Track MKII to your computer via USB. The M-Track MKII is a class compliant device, which means it requires no download or installation of special drivers that are not already found on your computer. On a Windows PC, a dialog will open in the bottom right hand corner of your screen indicating that the driver is automatically installing. When it is done it will indicate that your device is installed and ready to use. You will not see this on a Mac, however the drivers are still installed automatically.

Although the M-Track MKII is a class-compliant device, there are is a low-latency driver available for Windows that may improve the performance of the unit. The driver is available for download from the Drivers & Updates page on the M-Audio webiste.

The M-Track MKII should now be ready to use on your computer, but in some cases it may be necessary to tweak your system's sound settings. While this will more than likely not be required, it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with how the device is setup with your PC or Mac.

  1. On a PC, click on the Start Menu, and choose Control Panel. From the Control Panel, choose Hardware and Sound and/or Sound. You should now see your playback devices.

    As pictured above, the M-Track MKII should be set as your default playback device. If not, right click it and choose Set as Default Device. This should be reflected under the Recording tab as well.


  2. With the M-Track MKII highlighted in the recording devices tab, click on the Properties button. This will bring up a new set of options. Click the Levels tab. In Windows 7 you will need to adjust the recording level. It will default to 100 but you will need to drag the slider down until it is set at 4. You will not have to make this adjustment in Windows Vista.

  3. Click OK and you should be all set.

Mac

Getting Started With Ableton Live Lite by Recording an Audio Track

Open up Ableton Live Lite. If you need help installing or authorizing your software, please refer to Ableton's handy guide.

  1. Once Ableton is open go to Options > Preferences. On a Mac this will be Live > Preferences.
  2. In the Preferences window, click on the Audio tab. For the Driver Type, select MME/Direct X and then the M-Track MKII as your Audio Input and Audio Output devices. On a Mac you will choose CoreAudio instead of MME/Direct X.
    Alternatively, if you have chosen to use the additional M-Track ASIO driver for windows, select ASIO for Driver Type and select M-Track ASIO as your Audio Device.
    You can now exit out of this window.
  3. Go to View and select In/Out. This will bring up the input and output options of any audio tracks you've created.
  4. On your audio track, set your Audio From to Ext. In and set the input to be either input 1, 2, or 1 & 2 (if you have a stereo signal plugged into both inputs of the M-Track II). Clicking on the Record Ready button will arm the track and enable you to monitor your incoming audio.
  5. At the top of the screen, pressing Record and then Play will begin your recording!
